I wonder how many people the AP polled when it comes to picking dog names.

I know our two dogs, Axel and Abie, are human names. So were some of my past dogs, including Sasha and Dusty. The only dog I had that did not have a human name was Shadow.

I think a fairer question might not be “how many people name their pets with human names”, but “how often people name them with human names”.

I think many of us mull over pet names for sometime before we find ones that we like the sound of and enjoy.

I know this is a site about dogs, dog illnesses, and helping your dog be healthier, but I wanted to take a moment to address the other common pet in the house, Cats.

I have a cat, the dogs love to chase her when they see her. But she is just as much a member of the family as the dogs.

So Patches, a black and white, is pretty much a jeckyl and hyde cat. She is nice to me, but can be a little snippy with others. She does not always get the attention she deserves. Which is a shame.

She is going on 8 years of age, and will likely be at risk for many of the feline variations of the same common problems that occur in dogs. Cats can be plagued by obesity, asthma,  fleas, ticks, and a host of other problems.  Just because we have not dicussed them yet, does not mean the risks are not there.

While I tend to believe that cats are more self-sufficient then most dogs, this does not preclude them from needing medications, proper foods, or from getting injuries. So if you have a dog, and a cat, make sure to take care of both of them.
