Bathing your dog and making your own pet bathtub

If you have a dog, then beware the weather is getting nicer, the snow is melting and the rainy season is here.

What this means is that your dog will likely get wet, muddy and in most cases, STINKY. There is nothing worse then having to smell a soaking wet sticking dog all day.

This unfortunately means that you will have to spend tie keeping your dog clean, and this means giving your pet a bath. In some cases you might have to give them a few baths a week. So to make your life easier, and to make it less stressful on the dog, consider getting your own pet washing station.

There are commercial grade dog washing tubs available for those who are going to be doing a lot of washing. If you have more then one dog, dogs that shed a lot, or just like to buy expensive stuff, then get one.

But you can make a simple homemade version of this with a large plastic bin like you would find at Walmart. Simply cut a few holes in the bottom for drainage and cut out one side (leave a few inches on the bottom so water does not flow out), to make it easier to let your dog walk into the tub.

If your dog does not mind cold water, simply take the tub outside, and get your dog into the tub, and wash away. Dogs that do not like cold water will be harder to handle. In this case consider getting an attachment for your home faucet to get a warm water mix.

For stubborn dogs, you can attach a leash to the handle to help keep them steady.

Be prepared to get wet. Dog’s love to shake when they get wet. To minimize this shaking try not to get their heads wet until your nearly done, also hold them near the back (scruff) of the neck as this will help curb their desire to shake off.

For those who don’t want to spend a few bucks on a homemade bathing tub, consider the mess you will have to clean up in your bathroom from trying to wash your dog in the house. It only takes one washing to clog your drain, get mud all over and spray your walls when the dog gets out to realize exactly how much better it is to make your own outdoor pet washing tub.
