Cystitis in Dogs

Know about

Cystitis is one of the most common infections among dogs and is usually found more in females than males.

Bacterial cystitis occurs because of infection of the dog’s bladder. This is what gives the illness the opportunity of travelling up to the urethra as the bacteria occurs easier.

Generally, the dogs anus will contain the foremost source of cystitis. The comparatively shorter distance between anus and vagina results in females getting affected more than males.

When the cystitis reaches the bladder, it will start attacking the skinny outer edge of the muscle which makes the infection worse. Trying to preserve a healthy body, the acids in the urine of the dog will try to prevent the infection from taking hold.

The cystitis will begin to get worse once this natural protection system stops working and the acids run out. The dog will feel a burning sensation in its bladder when the situation gets worse. This in turn can rupture microscopic vessels of blood and mix them with the urine which appears as a glowing pink color.

– What to Do
If you think your dog has cystitis, you will need to go the vet at the earliest opportunity. You will have to bring a urine sample from your dog which will be tested for acidic levels, blood cells and glucose.

The vet may want to conduct additional tests such as an ultrasound scan, endoscopies or an x-ray to check the bladder. These tests are really effective in order to check the presence of irregular cells, such as microscopic bladder stones or tumours.

Only after performing all of these tests and other procedures have been carried out can the veterinarian analyze the disease correctly and suggest the suitable treatment and correct medicine for your dog to use.

But above all, your consciousness is the most important for your dog’s well being so if you suspect your dog to have cystitis, get to the vet as soon as possible.
